The Senior Director, Business & Finance Operations oversees the company’s finance, accounting and various general & corporate operations, including human resources, and facilities. Key responsibilities include Qpex financial oversight and reporting, risk management review, manage budgets and financial analysis, and facilities management. A key leader ready for strategic and creative problem solving to help shape our site strategy, drive organizational alignment, and enable growth through operational excellence. This position plays a vital role in connecting our mission to strategy to outcomes, with execution of critical processes and delivering measurable impact for employees and leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
•Oversee accounting, finance, human resources, and facility operations.
•Collaborate with site and Shionogi leadership and cross-functional teams to lead critical initiatives and ensure execution of top corporate goals.
•Financial oversight, including budgets, financial reporting and analysis, for Qpex San Diego location.
•Responsible for providing requested information for financial statement audit and corporate income tax returns to Shionogi.
•Preparation of BARDA accounting reconciliations, invoices, cost proposals, funding submissions, and financial reports.
•Manage the Value Added Tax reporting function.
•Oversight and enhancement of operational processes and process improvement.
•Maintain compliance over purchasing and procurement activities.
•Present finance-related activities to Board of Directors on quarterly and as needed basis.
•Ensure accounting policies supporting IFRS and appropriate internal controls are in place and followed.
•Provide effective and inspiring leadership, mentorship, as well as stewardship; Lead high performing team and departments in the development, recruitment, training and retention of key team members.
•Serve as a key liaison between finance, HR, legal, and operational departments to ensure alignment of resources and business priorities.
•Drive the implementation and optimization of enterprise systems (ERP, HRIS, financial systems) to enhance reporting, automation, and operational efficiencies.
•Partner with executive leadership to develop and execute long-term business strategies, aligning financial and operational goals with overall corporate objectives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Minimum of 12 years accounting or finance experience. Previous Controller experience or equivalent, preferably in life science, with operational responsibilities
• BS degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA highly preferred
• Strong technical financial and operational skills and experiences; Strong accounting research and problem-solving skills with a solid grasp of core accounting principles
• 5+ years supervisory experience
• Genuine and honest individual with high ethical standards and good interpersonal skills resulting in a good reputation with co-workers, senior management, and board of directors
• Knowledge of working with BARDA or other government funding agencies preferred
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and professional presentation skills; Must be able to communicate effectively and concisely through multiple channels to all levels of the organization, including global partnerships, in a cross-functional environment
• Ability to manage conflicting stakeholder interests, develop strong relationships, and influence stakeholders at all levels in a cross-functional environment
Additional Information
The base salary range for this full-time position is $240,000 - $280,000. Individual pay is determined by several factors, which include but are not limited to: job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The range does not include the comprehensive benefits, bonus, long-term incentive, applicable allowances, or any additional compensation that may be associated with this role.
