Overview

Reporting to the Executive Director, US Pricing Strategy & Government Impact, the Director, US Pricing Strategy is responsible for developing comprehensive pricing strategies to support Shionogi, Inc. in-line and pipeline product portfolio as well as providing support for business develop opportunities as needed.  This role will provide pricing subject matter expertise and be responsible for a breadth of strategy and operational pricing activities, including developing and implementing product launch price recommendations, contracting strategies, providing pricing and access assumptions to support business development projects as well as staying abreast of government led policy proposals and quantifying the potential impact on the Shionogi, Inc. portfolio.  

The successful Director, US Pricing Strategy candidate will have a deep understanding of US pharmaceutical pricing dynamics, healthcare system stakeholders, have strong financial modeling skills, be analytically oriented and innately curious.

Detailed Description

Pricing:

  • Support the development of comprehensive pricing strategies for in-line and pipeline products to maximize commercial potential; conduct pricing research to support launch price recommendations and develop payer / provider contracting strategies
  • Develop GTN projections for pipeline assets and business development projects ensuring the impact of the Medicare IRA and other potential policy impacts are incorporated
  • Manage pricing of assigned in-market products; develop value-based price action recommendations incorporating real world studies, cost-effectiveness analysis and investments in new indications, formulations, etc. to support
  • Monitor competitor pricing activity across therapeutic areas and update Price Landscape report accordingly
  • Participate in shaping the commercialization strategy of early and near-term pipeline assets by providing well informed gross and net price assumptions, access assumptions, offering input on optimal product dosing and formulation, assisting in the design of patient services support and advising of potential risks related to government policy proposals

Contracting:

  • Collaborates with Market Access account team, Brand, Finance and Legal to develop contract proposals that achieve / support profitable market access targets, brand business objectives and are compliant with all legal, regulatory guidelines and Shionogi compliance policies
  • Responsible for creating and/or updating all pre-deal modeling tools used to evaluate payer and provider contract proposals for assigned products; continually seeks ways to improve analytical methods and models
  • Prepares and presents payer / provider contracting business cases and financial analyses at Pricing Committee
  • Ensures accuracy of offers, pricing terms, and timely submission of contracts to customers
  • Develops and negotiates business terms and contract language with contracted customers when/where applicable.
  • Communicates the status of contracts in a timely manner across stakeholders; regularly collaborates with Finance team to ensure contracts are accurately reflected in GTN estimates
  • Provides regular updates for brand teams and senior leadership on contract performance (post-deal analysis)

Policy Impact:

  • Stays current on government led policy proposals that have the potential to significantly impact the pharmaceutical industry and / or Shionogi  
  • Build / update financial models to translate policy proposals into financial impact estimates to Shionogi in-line and pipeline assets
  • Support the development of presentations to educate colleagues and senior leadership on the potential financial impact and strategic implications of proposed policies

 

Minimum Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in economics, Finance, or related field required; Advanced degree, e.g., MBA preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the areas of pharmaceutical pricing, contracting, strategy development, and financial modeling required.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative analysis and financial modeling skills required.
  • Deep understanding of the US healthcare system, payer reimbursement methodologies pharmacy / medical benefit designs and stakeholder economics.
  • Experience launching new products across multiple therapeutic areas preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Must live a commutable distance to our US Corporate Headquarters in Florham Park, NJ. Office presence required at least 3 days per week
  • Ability to travel on an occasional / as-needed basis to company sponsored events and customer meetings which include overnight/weekend travel

Additional Information

The base salary range for this full-time position is $200,000 - $230,000. Individual pay is determined by several factors, which include but are not limited to: job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The range does not include the comprehensive benefits, bonus, long-term incentive, applicable allowances, or any additional compensation that may be associated with this role.
